Webinar #281
April 17, 2026 (Friday), 12:00 noon
Filipino sa Middle East, Handa Ba?
Possible Wartime Health Emergencies
In the contemporary global landscape, the intersection of armed conflict and public health presents a formidable challenge that transcends traditional clinical boundaries. As healthcare providers and dedicated community members, we are increasingly called to operate within environments where the structural integrity of health systems is compromised and the standard of care is dictated by extreme resource scarcity. This week’s episode serves as a critical forum to examine the multifaceted nature of health delivery during wartime, focusing on the sophisticated coordination required to mitigate morbidity and mortality when infrastructure is under siege.
We will discuss the physiological demands of treating poly-trauma and the management of chronic conditions when pharmacotherapy pathways are severed. We will explore the shift from elective care to emergency stabilization, emphasizing the necessity of trauma-informed care and the prevention of nosocomial infections in makeshift clinical settings. We will also analyze supply chain resilience and the adaptation of diagnostic protocols when laboratory reagents and standardized equipment are unavailable.
In addition, we will demystify the principles of public health sovereignty and community-based first response. We will attempt to understand the epidemiological shifts that occur during displacement, such as the increased risk of waterborne pathogens and nutritional deficiencies, so that every participant will gain a holistic understanding of how to maintain the continuum of care.
Our speaker is Dr. Arturo M. Pesigan, who is the former WHO representative to Yemen and an international expert in health emergencies. Join us as we ensure that even in the heart of conflict, the mandate to preserve human life remains an achievable and organized endeavor.
