Webinar #286
May 29, 2026 (Friday), 12:00 noon
How Do Vapes Cause Lung Injury and Cancer
E-Cigarettes Are Harmful
The rapid and pervasive adoption of electronic nicotine delivery systems and vaping technologies has introduced a complex and pressing public health crisis that directly challenges the contemporary landscape of respiratory medicine. Long mischaracterized by commercial interests as a benign alternative to combustible tobacco, empirical clinical data and molecular profiling continue to expose the profound pulmonary toxicities inherently tied to these aerosolized chemical cocktails.
In this week’s episode, we will conduct a comprehensive, data-driven discussion of the severe physiological consequences of electronic cigarette use. We will dismantle prevailing harm-reduction myths by contextualizing the precise biochemical mechanisms that drive acute organ dysfunction and long-term cellular transformation. We will also have an in-depth examination of e-cigarette or vaping product use-associated lung injury, an acute, non-infectious inflammatory syndrome characterized by diffuse alveolar damage, lipoid pneumonitis, and severe respiratory insufficiency. We will also discuss compelling evidence that details how these persistent chemical exposures induce structural DNA damage, perpetuate oxidative stress, and alter crucial tumor suppressor genes, thus creating a microenvironment highly conducive to lung carcinogenesis.
Our speaker is Dr. Maria Encarnita B. Limpin, a distinguished pulmonologist from the Philippine Heart Center who previously served as president of the Philippine College of Physicians. Join us and learn how to identify early warning signs, counsel patients effectively, and collectively mitigate a generation of preventable respiratory disease.
