Webinar #287
June 5, 2026 (Friday), 12:00 noon
Anong Mangyayari Kung May Dumating na May Ebola sa Pilipinas?
In light of the recent declaration by the World Health Organization classifying the intensifying Bundibugyo orthoebolavirus outbreak as a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC), the imperative for comprehensive border vigilance and clinical readiness within the Philippine healthcare architecture has reached a critical threshold. Although the primary cluster of transmission remains geographically centered in East-Central Africa, the velocity of contemporary international transit renders all entry points potential conduits for viral introduction. To address this pressing biosecurity concern, we will discuss this week the intricate operational and epidemiological maneuvers necessary to intercept, isolate, and manage a suspected case of Ebola virus disease upon domestic entry.
Attendees will be guided through a rigorous exploration of the pathogen’s clinical trajectory. This begins with the initial, non-specific dry symptoms of high fever, profound fatigue, and intense myalgia, progressing into the highly infectious wet symptoms characterized by severe gastrointestinal emesis, diarrhea, and hemorrhagic manifestations. We will discuss that transmissibility is entirely contingent upon direct contact with infected bodily fluids or contaminated fomites rather than airborne dissemination, underlining the paramount importance of immediate triage and stringent infection prevention and control mechanisms. In addition, we will discuss localized containment strategies such as the tactical execution of rapid patient isolation within negative-pressure environments, the meticulous donning and doffing sequences of specialized personal protective equipment, and the coordination of contact tracing networks in tandem with the Department of Health and the Bureau of Quarantine.
Our main speaker is Dr. Regina P. Berba, a prominent infectious diseases specialist who currently serves as Deputy Director for Health Operations at the UP-Philippine General Hospital. Join us in transforming institutional anxiety into a state of calibrated, resilient defense, ensuring the structural integrity of the national health infrastructure. See you online!
