REVIVAL. After three years of dormancy, The UP Painters’ Club (UPPC) is finally back to present what the organization’s resident members and alumni could offer with their skillful hands and eleventh extra finger, ika-labing isang daliri, figuratively the media or tool of their choice which makes the creation of their artworks possible. The annual art exhibit serves as an avenue for the artists to express themselves in different shapes and forms, and to continue uplifting visual arts appreciation across different communities.
The UPPC is the longest-living visual arts organization in the science- and technology-oriented University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB). The organization was founded on July 1, 1992 by Mario C. Angay together with 10 charter members. From the Visionaries, Teserae, and 30 years later with batch Figulus, the organization remains to be a safe haven of visual arts in UPLB. Since then, UPPC has become an avenue for artists and art enthusiasts alike devoted to enhancing their skills and talents in the field of visual arts.
Labing-Isang Daliri 2023 is not merely an art exhibit, but also a celebration of artistry from different generations and academic fields. It is an event that serves as a reminder to everyone, artists and art enthusiasts of different backgrounds, that there is a space for us, and for the artworks that we make or we will make with our hands and our chosen eleventh finger.
