MSI Talks with Dr. Paul Sanchez and Dr. Stefano Vianello

January 27 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

What can spatiotemporal dynamics tell us about an animal’s development? What can stomachs tell us about an animal’s evolution? In the aquatic world, the answer is a lot.

Join us for a joint talk by Dr. Paul Gerald Layague Sanchez and Dr. Stefano Davide Vianello from Academia Sinica, Taiwan on development and evolution in aquatic animals. Dr. Sanchez will chronicle their research journey from the formation of the precursors of bones and muscles to their current research on the eggs and embryos of a domesticated fish. Dr. Vianello will speak on clownfish evolution and metamorphosis, with focus on their gastrointestinal system as compared to lancelets, sea urchins, acorn worms and polychaete worms.

Dr. Sanchez and Dr. Vianello’s joint talk will be held on Monday, January 27, 2025, 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM, at the MSI AVR, Edgardo D. Gomez Hall.
