Exhibit Title: PANANAW, PAGPANAW

Can a lone hold of a gun lead to an unjust killing? Have we delved enough into the roots and practices of religion?

Immerse in these contexts at Pananaw, Pagpanaw, a two person exhibition of Ides Josepina Macapanpan and Dyanara Corachea at Parola, the UP Fine Arts Gallery at the University of the Philippines Diliman.

The two person exhibition features works that tackle social, political, religious, and cultural contexts and issues in the Philippines. It is also part of Macapanpan and Corachea’s requirement in their class, FA 221: Contemporary Approaches in Art Production under artist, ceramist, and educator, Prof. Katti Sta. Ana. The artists are currently enrolled in the Master of Fine Arts (MFA) program of the College of Fine Arts, University of the Philippines Diliman.

Pananaw, Pagpanaw will run from January 6 to 20, 2023.

“To Serve and Protect” by Ides Josepina Macapanpan’s work, is an installation art that dares to look at how the academe and the police force as two social institutions with polarized beliefs and principles meet when power takes on their adage of “Serve the People” and “To Serve and Protect.”

Macapanpan is a cultural activist, educator, and a graduate of the BFA program major in Industrial Design at the College of Fine Arts, UP Diliman.

Dyanara “Dyan” Corachea’s work, “Kwentong Banahaw,” is a series of installations, photographs and short videos that attempt to delve into the meaning and values associated with the religious practice and its roots particularly in the dubbed “holy mountain” of Mt. Banahaw in Southern Luzon, Philippines.

Corachea is an artist with an interest in the relationship and intersections of faith and mysticism
