For a brief moment recently, the supposed peculiarity of a particular Bikol register, referred to as “angry register,” became the topic of interest and discussion online. Even mainstream media reported on this phenomenon.
This lecture attempts to answer some questions about the use, the form, and the development of this Bikol register, and in the process, raise a few more questions about standardization and the sociolinguistic dynamics between centers and peripheries.
This event is free and open to the public.
