Webinar #130

Masakit ang Puson: Endometrosis kaya?
The Philippine General Hospital is observing an increase in numbers of women consulting for pelvic pain then diagnosed later as endometriosis. Special clinics have been opened to provide services for this surge in cases.
Endometriosis is a disease where tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside the uterus, causing pain and/or infertility. Globally it affects about 10% of women and girls of reproductive age. It is a chronic disease associated with severe, life-impacting pain during periods, sexual intercourse, bowel movements and/or urination, chronic pelvic pain, abdominal bloating, nausea, fatigue, and sometimes depression, anxiety, and infertility.
But there seems to be limited awareness about endometriosis — leading to delayed treatment and undue suffering. Is it possible that during the pandemic, women who experienced pelvic pain paid less attention to this, resulting in many delayed diagnosis today?
In this episode of STOP COVID DEATHS, we will take a closer look at endometriosis – its signs and symptoms and when consultation for pelvic pain is necessary. The main presenter is OB-GYN and infertility specialist and past president of the Philippine Society for Reproductive Medicine, Dr. Angela Aguilar and the reactor is Dr. Gladys Tanangonan, who subspecializes in reproductive endocrinology and infertility, both from the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at the UP Philippine General Hospital. Synthesis and Closing Remarks will be delivered by Dr. Stella Marie L. Jose, newly-appointed head of the Expanded Education and Training Office of the UP Philippine General Hospital.
Join us as we learn more about how COVID-19 has affected health services and contributed to new problems we face in public health. Together, we can Stop C.O.V.I.D. Deaths!
