Each month, thousands of Filipinos are able to undergo complex and life-saving surgical procedures because of anesthesia.
Anesthesiology as a specialty field is considered as one of the most significant breakthroughs of modern medicine that has enabled various interventions for diagnostic and treatment purposes. From delivering babies to heart transplants, anesthesiology makes it possible to eliminate pain, monitor vital signs and intervene during critical moments.
In this episode of STOP C.O.V.I.D. DEATHS, we will take a closer look at general anesthesia and the latest developments in “putting a patient to sleep”. What happens to the brain when a person is under general anesthesia? Are there instances where a patient may awaken during a procedure? If so, can patients remember this? What are the latest drugs in general anesthesia? What are the risks and possible side effects of general anesthesia, if any?
The main presenters are both Consultants with the Dept of Anesthesiology at the UP Philippine General Hospital, Dr. Antonio Alan S. Mangabat, who will discuss sleep and anesthesia and Dr. Iluminada T. Camagay, who will tackle the dynamics of anesthesia and the developing brain. Reactor will be Dr. Grace Anne B. Herbosa, Chair of the Dept of Anesthesiology at the UP Philippine General Hospital.
