Webinar #139
“Kumusta Ang Puso Mo? Okay Ba?: Innovations in Cardiovascular Medicine”
Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) as the leading cause of death globally. Each year it is estimated that the global number of deaths is about 18 million. Four out of five deaths are from heart attacks and strokes. In the Philippines, CVDs account for a third of all deaths. In 2020, it was estimated that 62,000 people died from heart attacks.
Identifying those with the highest risk and making sure that they receive appropriate treatment can prevent the premature deaths (under the age of 70) from heart disease. Access to medicines and therapeutic interventions in a timely manner can definitely save lives. Preventive measures are equally important including management of hypertension, reduction of salt intake, diet and physical activity, cessation or tobacco use and exposure to secondhand smoke, avoiding the harmful use of alcohol, and managing stress are all known to collectively reduce risks from death from heart disease.
In this episode of STOP COVID DEATHS, we will talk about prevention and clinical management of heart disease at the Philippine general hospital. In particular for heart attacks, therapeutic modalities for blocked arteries will be discussed. Our main speaker is Dr. John C. Añonuevo, who is a practicing cardiologist and is the current Chairman of the UP-PGH Department of Medicine and our reactor is Dr. Dennis Bautista, who is a Consultant with the Department of Radiology at the Ospital ng Muntinlupa. The Synthesis and Closing Remarks are to be delivered by Dr. Stella Marie L. Jose, who is the Head of the UP-PGH Office of Expanded Education and Training.
Join your credible online community in understanding how to prevent and manage heart attacks with greater effectiveness. Together, we can STOP C.O.V.I.D. DEATHS!
