Webinar #147
“Ukol sa Bukol” : The Role of Radiology in Diagnosing and Treating Cancer

Cancer continues to be a significant global health concern, necessitating advanced diagnostic and treatment approaches. This webinar aims to explore the state-of-the-art techniques in diagnostic radiology, interventional radiology, and radiation oncology, both internationally and within the context of the Philippines.

Internationally, advancements in diagnostic radiology have revolutionized cancer detection, utilizing cutting-edge imaging modalities such as computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and positron emission tomography (PET). These techniques enable precise tumor localization, staging, and evaluation of treatment response.

Interventional radiology plays a vital role in cancer management by providing minimally invasive treatment options. Procedures such as image-guided biopsies, ablation therapies, and embolization have significantly improved patient outcomes and quality of life.

In the field of radiation oncology, the integration of advanced techniques like intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT), and proton therapy has led to enhanced tumor targeting and reduced treatment-related side effects. Within the Philippines, significant strides have been made in radiology, with state-of-the-art imaging centers equipped with advanced diagnostic tools.

In this episode of STOP COVID DEATHS, experts from the PGH Department of Radiology will highlight the key developments in the radiology landscape for the Philippines, including the availability and accessibility of advanced imaging modalities, the role of interventional radiology in cancer treatment, and the advancements in radiation oncology techniques. Our speakers will be Dr. Vicente Francisco R. Hizon, who is the Chief of the PGH Division of Radiation Oncology; Dr. Antonio Marlo P. Nievera, who is the Chief of the PGH Division of Diagnostic Radiology and Head of the MRI Section; Dr. Jolly Jason S. Catibog, who is the Chief of the PGH Division of Interventional Radiology; and Dr. Catherine Jessica M. Lazaro, who is the Chair of the PGH Department of Radiology. The Synthesis and Closing Remarks will be delivered by Dr. Stella Marie L. Jose, who is the Head of the PGH Office of Expanded Education and Training.

Keep abreast with the latest from your credible online community. Join us as we learn how to improve cancer care by leveraging the crucial role of radiology in diagnosing and treating cancer.

Together, we can STOP C.O.V.I.D. DEATHS!
