“The Modeling of Biological Systems: Catalyzing Curiosity to Drive Collaboration”

October 18, 2023 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

PUBLIC LECTURE | The Disease Watch and Analytics (DiWA) Center, in partnership with the PASYENTE-Project for Dengue and the UPMin Office of Research, would like to invite students and researchers to a public lecture on “The Modeling of Biological Systems,” which aims to inspire more work in using mathematics and scientific computing to study biological phenomena and to drive interdisciplinary collaboration.

Our invited speaker, Dr. Edwin Tecarro — who originally hails from Davao City and is visiting the country under the DOST Balik Scientist Program — is an associate professor of mathematics and statistics at the University of Houston–Downtown, United States.

Dr. Tecarro completed his early education at Magallanes Central Elementary School and Davao City High School before earning a BS in Mathematics at UP Diliman, an MS in Applied Mathematics at Southern Methodist University (Dallas, Texas, USA), and a PhD in Mathematics at the University of Houston (Houston, Texas, USA). He has worked with interdisciplinary teams on mathematical models of cell cycle progression and embryonic development.

This lecture is a great learning opportunity to gain valuable insights into the world of biosystems modeling and its various applications. It is part of our advocacy to contribute towards youth empowerment by encouraging budding researchers to do work in this interdisciplinary field.

This lecture is FREE and OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. However, due to limited venue capacity, we can only accommodate a limited number of participants. Hence, interested participants are directed to PRE-REGISTER ONLINE: https://bit.ly/46LhgPh
