The Philippines is one of the major labor-exporting countries. The massive OFW phenomenon has continuously generated positive contributions to the Philippine economy-high foreign exchange reserves, positive balance of payments, education, small-scale enterprises by families receiving remittances, and improved knowledge and skills by returning OFWs. However, the downside costs receive little attention.
