As part of its public service program, the UP School of Statistics, in collaboration with the University of the Philippines Statistical Center Research Foundation, Inc., offers a free online seminar hosted by the Computational Statistics Research Group entitled:
Transformer 101: A Gentle Introduction to NLP with Deep Learning
a concise, beginner-friendly introduction to key concepts behind transformer-based models — including attention mechanisms, model architecture, and the basics of pre-training and fine-tuning.
The seminar will be held on 12 December 2025 (Friday), 9 AM – 12 NN, via Zoom.
Asst. Prof. Michael Van Supranes of the School will serve as the resource person for this online seminar.
The session is designed for statisticians, data analysts, faculty, and students interested in understanding how modern NLP tools can enhance data-driven research. A background in modeling or machine learning is helpful but not required.
