“Universities Fight Back! Protecting Academic Freedom in Higher Education”

The University of the Philippines (UP) Office of the Faculty Regent and All U.P. Academic Employees Union will hold the first Talakayan (Talastasang Akademya at Bayan) with a roundtable discussion, “Universities Fight Back! Protecting Academic Freedom in Higher Education” on 16 October 2023, Monday, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Alcantara Hall of the UP Diliman Student Union Building and via Zoom.

The activity will look into the state of academic freedom in higher education institutions in the Philippines and other regions, and the ongoing efforts of academics and support networks
to protect academic freedom.
Resource speakers include Scholars at Risk’s Daniel Munier, Dr. Khoo Ying Hooi of Universiti Malaya, Rep. Raoul Manuel of KABATAAN Partylist, and Faculty Regent Carl Marc Ramota.
Activity partners include the UP Office of the Student Regent, Office of the Staff Regent, Scholars at Risk, Alliance of Concerned Teachers-Philippines, Congress of Teachers/Educators for Nationalism and Democracy, KASAMA sa UP, UP Information Technology Development Center, and Defend UP Network. The event is also part of the celebration of Academic Union Month in UP.
