In celebration of UP Tacloban’s 50th founding anniversary, the University of the Philippines (UP), the Office of the UP President, and UP Tacloban College present the UP Symphony Orchestra (UPSO) in Tacloban City on 23 May 2023, 6:00 PM at the old Leyte Provincial Capitol at the corner of Magsaysay Boulevard and Senator Enage Street. Admission to the UPSO concert is free.
Tagged as the orchestra for the people or Orkestra ng Bayan, UPSO was established by the UP Board of Regents at its 1337th meeting on 30 August 2018 as the official university orchestra. Under the directorship of the international composer-conductor Professor Emeritus Josefino Chino Toledo, the orchestra maintains a roster of 65 members exclusively from within the UP community. They regularly perform Filipino, Asian, contemporary, and new works in addition to the standard orchestra repertoire.
UPSO in Tacloban City is part of a series of activities celebrating UP Tacloban’s first five decades as an institution of higher learning committed to excellence and service to the region and the nation. The lineup of activities can be found here: https://bit.ly/UPTaclobanAt50
