#YamangKalawakan in Action: Building Climate Resilience through Space-enabled Analytics

Join the UPISC for its first webinar for 2026 entitled “#YamangKalawakan in Action: Building Climate Resilience through Space-enabled Analytics” with Dr. Gay Jane Perez, Deputy Director General for Space Science and Technology at the Philippine Space Agency (PhilSA).
Satellite technology and remote sensing are essential tools for disaster monitoring and management, especially as climate change intensifies the disaster risks in the country. These technologies are increasingly being supported by artificial intelligence (AI) in select geospatial application.
In this talk, Dr. Perez will introduce Yamang Kalawakan, the Philippine space ecosystem, highlighting how it transforms space-derived data into actionable intelligence to aid disaster risk reduction and management. She will discuss how PhilSA utilizes Earth observation satellites and data-sharing mechanisms to aid hazard monitoring, early warning, damage assessment and recovery. Several use cases on how satellite-based information enables timely and data-informed interventions will also be explored. She will also highlight the application of AI-driven geospatial analysis in environmental monitoring to support ecosystem protection and long-term resilience.
🗓 Date: 16 January 2026 (Friday)
