Webinar #291
July 10, 2026 (Friday), 12:00 noon
“Nasaan Ang Pag-asa sa Kanser sa Obaryo?”

The landscape of gynecologic oncology is undergoing a profound transformation, driven by breakthroughs in molecular diagnostics, targeted therapeutics, and innovative screening strategies. Maintaining a contemporary understanding of these clinical advancements is pivotal to optimizing patient outcomes. Ovarian cancer remains one of the most formidable malignancies of the female reproductive system, often termed a silent threat due to its insidious onset and the subtle, non-specific nature of its early clinical manifestations.

In this week’s episode, we will explore the evolving paradigms of ovarian carcinogenesis by shifting from a singular disease model to a complex spectrum of distinct histopathological and molecular subtypes. We will learn comprehensive insights into the clinical utility of biomarkers such as Cancer Antigen 125 and Human Epididymis Protein 4, alongside the expanding role of genetic testing for BRCA1, BRCA2, and homologous recombination deficiency mutations. Understanding these genetic landscapes is no longer exclusive to tertiary subspecialists; it is now essential for frontline clinicians who spearhead risk assessment, patient counseling, and early referral pathways. In addition, we will attempt to demystify modern therapeutic modalities, including the strategic deployment of poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase inhibitors and anti-angiogenic agents in both primary maintenance and recurrent settings.

Our speaker is Dr. Jean Anne B. Toral, who is a professor from the Division of Gynecologic Oncology, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, UP-PGH. She also serves as Director of the Office of Research Integrity at UP Manila.

Join us to learn how to develop a collaborative network needed to combat ovarian malignancy and elevate the standard of women’s healthcare in the Philippines.
