Kailangan Ko ng Dugo. Saan ako Pupunta?
Philippine Red Cross Updates
Ensuring timely access to safe, high-quality blood components remains a critical determinant of clinical outcomes across emergency care, surgical interventions, and chronic hematologic management. To bridge the gap between clinical demand and supply chain reality, healthcare practitioners must understand the systemic logistics, testing protocols, and distribution frameworks governing national blood services. In this week’s episode, we will provide a definitive operational and clinical update on the blood management infrastructure maintained by the Philippine Red Cross (PRC). We will also analyze modern transfusion medicine workflows, regulatory compliance standards, and inventory allocation strategies.
We will address the critical path of blood product acquisition during routine and emergency conditions. We will review standard operating procedures for blood requisition, crossmatching coordination, component therapy utilization, and adverse reaction surveillance. Attendees will gain insights into how the PRC leverages advanced nucleic acid testing (NAT), automated donor screening, and cold-chain integrity monitoring to guarantee safety and minimize transmissible infection risks. In addition, we will discuss practical referral pathways for patients and clinicians navigating acute supply shortages, explaining how local healthcare facilities can efficiently interface with regional PRC blood centers. Our speaker is Dr. Christie Monina M. Nalupta, who is the Assistant Secretary-General and Director of National Blood Services at the Philippine Red Cross.
Join us to better understand how multidisciplinary healthcare teams and community stakeholders can enhance their capacity to optimize patient care, streamline hemotherapy logistics, and contribute to a resilient national voluntary blood donation ecosystem.
