🎓 UPSE-PCED Seminar featuring Dr. Kent Joshua Cheng, a population health scientist, social gerontologist, and family demographer who broadly studies the social determinants of health across the life course in the United States, the Philippines, and other countries. His primary research focus is on the health implications of family support and social welfare policies among older adults and their families. He holds a PhD in Social Science from the Maxwell School at Syracuse University and an MA in Economics from the UP School of Economics.

🧠📚💡Lecture Title: Precedents and Health Consequences of Intergenerational Support Across the Life Course

Families are often tasked to fill in to support each other when social safety nets fall short — but that family safety net comes with costs that extend beyond the current generation, and it isn’t distributed evenly. Drawing on five years of my research spanning the US and Philippines, this talk examines what shapes intergenerational support and what it costs the people who receive and provide it, particularly for health across the life course.
