UPM SHS Alumni Association: Bridging Communities Through Meaningful Initiatives
By Adelaida Gaytos Rosaldo, MD
The UPM SHS Alumni Association remains steadfast in its commitment to fostering positive change through collaborative efforts, addressing both immediate needs and long-term welfare in the communities it serves. Recently, the association partnered with UPMSHS midwifery students to leverage the results of their community survey in Barangay San Francisco East Alang-alang, Leyte. The findings revealed vulnerable families struggling with inadequate clothing, prompting the alumni association to organize a donation drive. Through the collective efforts of members and donors, appropriate clothing was gathered and distributed to each identified family, providing warmth and comfort to those in need.
Beyond material support, the association also prioritized health education by collaborating with Dagami RHIU (Rural Health Unit) to conduct an Adolescent Health Awareness Forum. This initiative reached students from both public and private high schools, covering critical topics such as Mental Health and Mpox Awareness. By equipping young individuals with essential knowledge, the forum empowered them to make informed decisions about their well-being, fostering a healthier and more resilient youth population.
Additionally, recognizing the importance of a conducive learning environment, the UPM SHS Alumni Association extended support to current students by contributing to the establishment of a Student Lounge in partnership with the UPMSHS Student Council. This space now serves as an area for students to study, collaborate, and recharge, enhancing their overall academic experience.
Through these initiatives, the UPM SHS Alumni Association continues to exemplify the spirit of service, collaboration, and compassion—proving that even small acts of kindness can create lasting impacts. Moving forward, the association remains dedicated to uplifting communities and inspiring future generations.
