The UP Center for Education and Development (CEDEV) invites you to a Panel Discussion on General Education in Higher Education.

The panel discussion brings together local and international experts across different fields, including science, the social sciences, and education, to provide a broad and comparative discussion of how General Education (GE) is understood, designed, and contested in higher education. GE has long served as the common intellectual foundation of university education, complementing specialization with broader capacities for critical thinking, civic awareness, and societal engagement. Yet the place and purpose of GE continue to be debated across higher education systems. At the center of these conversations is a fundamental question: what kind of graduates should universities develop in a rapidly changing world? The discussion will investigate how GE reform affects different disciplines and professional pathways, while also situating the Philippine context within wider international and comparative perspectives.
