UPV grads present Public Health program in Thailand
Public Health graduates Franco Miguel Nodado and Matt Andrew Secular presented their Public Health program in the 8th Public Health Conference (PHC2022) on November 1 to 3, 2022 in Bangkok, Thailand.
PROJECT MAL: MAMA, ANAK, AT LIPUNAN KONTRA MALNUTRISYON (Health Education and Promotion Project to Improve the Child Nutrition Programs in Barangay Guibongan, Miagao, Iloilo) was led by Team HaMAL comprised of Allen Claire Arances, Kirsten Anne Gerez, Nodado, Frances Catherine Rosario, Charise Alvyne Samaniego, and Secular.
“Malnutrition is not just the lack of food but it’s also the lack of good governance, lack of access to clean water, and also a lack in health education and promotion in the barangay. We are so happy that we were able to share our project from people around the world and we hope that they can replicate the project in their localities as well,” Nodado said on Thursday, Nov. 3, 2022, as he explained the importance of sharing their project to a wider audience.
“It is important that the community is empowered against malnutrition so they can have the capacity to demand and/or access their basic needs such as food, water, sanitation, and social security to achieve and sustain proper nutrition, thus resulting in good health,” Secular added during the conference held at Holiday Inn Bangkok Silom.
The 8th Public Health Conference was attended by health professionals from Thailand, Portugal, Indonesia, Malaysia, South Korea, the United States, and Japan.
The PHC2022 is a 3-day program that “aims to gather academics as well as experienced and accomplished professionals, NGO and government representatives, from all over the world,” according to its organizers. (Sources: Division of Biological Sciences)

UP Visayas advises its community members and alumni to “exercise extra prudence in responding to requests for financial assistance made online.”
Attention UPV constituents and alumni:
Please exercise extra prudence in responding to requests for financial assistance made online. A number of UPV alumni have been victimized recently and, this morning, the Office of the Chancellor has received a formal report of a hacking incident involving a private account of one of our employees and victimizing UPV students and fresh graduates. We will be formally seeking the assistance of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) even as we are presently studying other ways of responding to this problem.

More pictures on UPV Office of Alumni Relations Facebook
Alumni from UPIC class 1957 spearheaded a reunion together with other UP alumni from different batches at the Marriot Hotel in Iloilo City last Thursday, September 15th, to celebrate their Blue Sapphire Jubilee (65 years since graduation).
The affair was mainly organized by Dr. Josefino Ceballos who unfortunately missed the August 21 Homecoming Dinner due to COVID. Fulfilling his promise to come back home, he travelled to Iloilo with his wife, Dimpna Mabilog-Ceballos who was his sponsor when he served as Corps Commander of the UPIC ROTC unit.
Some of the notable guests during the celebration were former Iloilo governor Arthur Defensor Sr., former Iloilo City councilor Perla Zulueta, Ms. Ellen Divinagracia, Ms. Luna Pet Guilaran, Ms. Letecia Chua, Mr. & Mrs. Solomon and Nilda Exmundo among others.
Some faculty and staff were also invited to attend the affair such as retired professors Dr. Diana Aure, Prof. Fe Dureza, Dr. Ma. Luisa Mabunay, and Dr. Ebonia Seraspe, current CAS Dean Alice Joan Ferrer, Librarian Analiza Linaugo, and Health Services Unit doctors Cecilia Villaruz and Chona Parreno.
The event was made delightful by anecdotes from the alumni, short messages of gratitude from Dr. Villaruz and Ms. Linaugo for all the support and donations from the UPIC alumni, and the singing of the UPIC Hymn by Professor Dureza and Dr. Ceballos.
UPIC Class 1957 has made substantial donations to the UPV Library and the UPV HSU over the last several years.
